Job Summary:

The Assistant Commissioning, Validation, and Verification Engineer will support the lead engineers in assessing, commissioning, verifying, and maintaining ventilation systems within healthcare, research, and critical care environments. This role serves as an entry-level position with a clear progression path to becoming a fully qualified Engineer after a period of structured training and hands-on experience. The successful candidate will develop expertise in ventilation system testing, compliance, and optimization, gaining knowledge in commissioning and validation processes.

Key Responsibilities:

​

Supporting Ventilation System Commissioning, Testing, and Verification:

  • Assist in inspections, commissioning, and verification of ventilation systems, including operating theatres, isolation rooms, and treatment suites.

  • Support testing and documentation of system performance metrics, such as air change rates, pressure differentials, filtration efficiency, and equipment functionality.

  • Learn to evaluate and calibrate systems to meet industry standards such as SHTM03-01 and HBN guidelines.

  • Provide on-site assistance to engineers in commissioning activities, ensuring ventilation systems operate effectively and safely.

  • Compliance and Reporting:

  • Aid in analizing test results and compiling technical reports under supervision.

  • Assist in ensuring ventilation systems align with design intent, user requirement specifications, and applicable healthcare regulations.

  • Gain experience in report writing, documentation, and data interpretation to support compliance activities.

 

AHU Maintenance and Optimisation:

  • Support routine inspections and maintenance of Air Handling Units (AHUs), including cleaning, filter replacement, and minor adjustments.

  • Assist in identifying and troubleshooting common AHU issues, such as fan performance, damper positioning, and filter efficiency.

  • Work alongside engineers to understand energy-efficient upgrades and system enhancements.

 

Equipment and System Optimization:

  • Learn to assess the performance of ventilation components, such as AHUs, pressure stabilisers, fans, and filters.

  • Support verification of airflow rates, pressure cascades, and filtration systems during commissioning activities.

  • Gain experience in using industry-standard tools such as micromanometers, anemometers, and particle counters.

 

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Work closely with estates teams, contractors, and clients to understand ventilation-related concerns and support remedial actions.

  • Assist in providing technical guidance on best practices for maintenance, commissioning, and upgrades.

  • Attend team meetings and training sessions to develop technical and professional skills.

 

Technical Development:

  • Assist in reviewing and updating standard operating procedures (SOPs) for ventilation system management.

  • Gain exposure to new equipment and tools, such as particle counters and hot wire anemometers, to enhance evaluation and commissioning capabilities.

  • Participate in formal training and mentorship programs to develop expertise in the field.

 

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • A keen interest in ventilation systems and building services within critical environments.

  • Strong willingness to learn and develop technical skills in commissioning, testing, and maintenance.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Visio (or willingness to learn).

  • Analytical mindset with attention to detail in technical data interpretation.

  • Good written and verbal communication skills for reporting and team collaboration.

  • Ability to work in a hands-on environment and travel to various sites.

 

Desirable Skills:

  • Basic understanding of ventilation systems and airflow principles.

  • Interest in healthcare ventilation compliance and industry regulations.

  • Possession of a valid full driving license.

  • Any prior experience in commissioning, engineering, or building services would be beneficial but not essential.

 

Additional Information:

This role involves site visits and travel to various locations. The Assistant Engineer will gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced engineers, with the goal of progressing to a full Engineer role after completing the necessary training and gaining practical experience. Salary: This will be based on age and experience.

  • Extensive knowledge of ventilation systems testing, commissioning, and maintenance in critical environments – CSA graded preferable.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret technical data and provide actionable solutions.

Specialist Ventilation Cleaning Technician

 

Location: Scotland

Reports to: Managing Director/Team Leader

Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Summary:

  • Full-time Specialist Ventilation Cleaning Technician required to work within the hospital environment.

  • No experience required as full training will be provided.
